GLAZE Standalone

Create a look in the GLAZE app, then export a new movie to use in any editor. You do not need After Effects, Premiere Pro or Resolve.

This guide covers Mac Standalone 1.0.1, build 11. You need the Standalone or Complete edition, macOS 14 or later and a Metal-capable Mac.

1. Install and activate

Open your order's Standalone DMG, drag GLAZE into Applications, eject the image and launch the copied app. Activate online with your purchase email and order number.

Already installed and activated? Keep that working activation. See Installation and activation for updates and your two-Mac allowance.

2. Open a short piece of media

Choose BROWSE or drop a video or still image into GLAZE. Start with something short so it is easy to check the result.

Inspect orientation and framing before adding a look. For video, press Space to play or pause. For an image, set the movie duration before export. A still-image export is a movie made from that image.

Keep the original source file. Export to a different filename.

3. Start with a preset

Choose a factory preset, then watch more than a single frame. Motion and texture can change the feel of a look.

Use SOURCE / PROCESS to compare the original and processed image. Adjust Dry/Wet to blend the look. Make one change at a time so you can tell what it does.

EASY provides a smaller set of controls; ADVANCED exposes more detail. Start in Easy, then expand your adjustments when you know which part of the image you want to change.

4. Set processing quality

SD, HI and FULL change how GLAZE processes the image. They are not export-resolution presets.

A responsive preview is useful while designing a look. Before delivery, inspect a short export at your chosen final quality. Do not assume a smaller preview means the saved movie will use that size.

5. Keep your look

Choose NEW PRESET, enter a recognizable name and choose SAVE. Look for PRESET SAVED. Your look appears under MY PRESETS; select it there to recall it. In ADVANCED, the floppy-disk Save preset control opens the same naming popover. Keep an untouched factory preset as a starting point.

A preset stores a look. It is not a copy of your source media or the rendered movie. Keep your source and exported files separately.

6. Optional: try experimental Record

Record is experimental in build 11. Try a short video and inspect its export before relying on a recorded take for a project.

  1. Return to the beginning and choose a starting look.
  2. Choose RECORD. ARMED means it is waiting for playback; this does not start playback by itself.
  3. Play the clip and move the controls. The status changes to RECORDING.
  4. Click the record button while recording to finish and hold the take. TAKE READY means it is held for export. Exporting also finishes an active take.
  5. Export a short result and check the movement.

Clicking the record button while TAKE READY is shown clears the held performance. Clicking it while ARMED cancels arming. Do not use it as a save command. A take records control changes, not a screen recording of the preview; saving a preset does not save the performance. For a first export, a static preset is the simpler starting point.

7. Export a movie

  1. Choose the output format.
  2. Select EXPORT for video, or EXPORT VIDEO for a still image.
  3. Pick a new filename and a writable destination with enough free space.
  4. Wait for completion, then open the saved movie.
Format Use
PR422 / ProRes 422 A MOV editing master; also the workaround for the still-image issue below.
PR4444 / ProRes 4444 A MOV option; selecting it does not, by itself, create transparency in the current video workflow.
H264 MP4 delivery when a smaller file is useful.
HEVC MP4 when the playback destination supports HEVC.

GLAZE exports the full source video, not just the paused preview frame. Check the beginning, middle and end, framing, duration and audio before delivery.

For a video with multiple audio tracks, make a version with one mixed soundtrack before importing it.

8. Check and reuse the result

Import the exported movie into your editor like any other media file. Save both your original source and the rendered version.

For cancellation, click the export progress/stop control once and wait for the cancellation message. Do not force-quit simply because a codec operation takes a moment to return.

Still-image H.264 or HEVC failure

Some odd-sized still images fail to export in these formats in build 11. Select PR422 / ProRes 422 and export a new MOV. If you need MP4, convert that result in your editor and check the framing.

If ProRes also fails, record the image dimensions, duration, codec and error. See Troubleshooting.
